Doris King
Artist/Teacher/Coach

I am a metalsmith, Certified Instructor for Precious Metal Clay, and an NLP Life Coach.

A background in drawing, painting, and textile design influences my work with metal, resulting in a painterly style and a weaving together of texture and color. Sterling and fine silver represents a blank canvas.  It is where I begin building form and texture, then embellish with colored stones, high karat gold, found objects, and other treasures.

My work has evolved into a fusion of traditional metalsmithing with the innovative technology of metal clay, resulting in designs that are sculptural, fluid, and interpretive.

The southwestern desert where I live provides generous inspiration.   Extreme and fragile, the desert is a balance of contracts and the unexpected.   My designs are a creative interpretation of these interrelationships.

I have enjoyed over 20 years of nationwide gallery representation, participated in art exhibits, solo shows, served as juror for art and craft fairs, and presented at the 2006 PMC International Conference.

I am published in PMC Technic, edited by Tim McCreight and in Setting Stones in Metal Clay, by Jeanette Landenwitch.

Teaching is a major interest and pleasure.  Integrated in my jewelry classes is the importance creativity plays in our overall life.
I believe creative thinking can expand communication skills, enhance problem solving, and open possibilities for the creation of art and the art of living. It is my goal to share that belief through my teaching, jewelry designs, and coaching.
