Please check this page regularly, as more classes will be added and feel free to contact me for special class requests or questions.
I offer a variety of PMC classes, beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. The mixed metals classes fall into the more advanced levels.
Stone setting is another favorite and I offer several varieties of stone setting classes.
In all of my PMC, stone setting, and mixed metals classes, we use a kiln. No torch or soldering skills are involved.
I am now offering one on one classes for those who wish to have personalized instruction in any PMC or metalsmithing technique. Please contact me for details and pricing at info@dorisking.com

I'm very excited to introduce the new design for my PMC classes. I hope this new format will meet your needs and provide a more predictable schedule.
My goal is to be more centrally located in Tucson, offer an established schedule of self-paced, progressive classes with plenty of instruction, demos, and coaching, and to encourage a community of sharing, non-judgment, and creative growth.
What:
The 3 hour classes will be on Tuesday mornings or afternoons (NEW time) as well as Thursday evenings, for six weeks, totaling 18 hours of studio time.
Skill Levels:
Beginners to advanced
Each person is invited to work at their own pace, design their own projects and advance their skills.
What will you learn?
These classes will be technique oriented rather than project oriented. Therefore, the classes will be personalized according to your requests. I will provide demos, 1:1 instruction, and coaching. We will cover, for example, how to form, sculpt, and mold PMC; how to make molds, layer, build hollow forms, texture, use the syringe, set fire in place stones, calculate sizing a PMC ring, make traditional bezels, and set heat sensitive stones, found objects, glass, and unusual shaped stones.
Metalsmithing skills that can be explored include oxidizing with Liver of Sulfur or Black Max, forming and setting bezels for heat sensitive stones, found objects and unusually shaped stones, sawing, forging, piercing, drilling, how to use various burrs and wheels with your Dremel or flex shaft, texturing, and finishing techniques. We will not solder in this class.
You will learn the benefits and have the opportunity to experiment with each type of PMC, including the new bronze and copper clays.
PMC is relatively new to the world of jewelry and we are all explorers. That's part of the fun and the challenge. There are some rules and a lot of unexplored territory; a lot to learn and a lot to discover.
Why?
Some of you will remember my Open Studio in years past. My intention for this new class series is to create that same atmosphere of community, and this time, include instructions and new techniques to challenge and encourage creative problem solving.
When:
Thanks to all my students for their support of my classes. I am now happy to add a third option to the schedule. Having three classes also provides more alternate times when you need some flexibility in your schedule.
Please enroll in either the morning, afternoon or evening class. However, if you cannot attend a specific class, you may attend the alternate class time, or attend two classes another week.
All 18 hours must be completed within the 6 week series, with no carry-overs into the next session.
Where:
St. Philips Episcopal Church, Pottery Studio
Northeast corner of River Rd and Campbell Ave.
Cost and other Important Details:
Class Fee: $150.00 per 6 week series, includes firing, tumbling, studio tools and equipment to share.
Your space in class will be reserved when I receive your $150.00 check. The checks will not be cashed until the class begins.
Materials: To begin, you will need one 16 gm. pack of silver PMC3. This may be purchased in class or you may bring your own. PMC is priced daily, according to the market. The average cost for a 16 gm pack is $25.00. Tools: If you have your own PMC tool kit, please bring it, along with any of your favorite tools, magnifying glasses, and other desired materials
Directions:
- Enter at the church parking lot by the north driveway (2nd entrance off Campbell Ave., just north of River Rd.)
-Travel east through the parking lot
-At the east corner of the Douglas Children's Center (AKA "Bloom Music Center"), turn south in the parking lot. (you are driving around the back of the church to the east parking lot)
-Park on the east side of this building
-You will see a stucco arch with an ornate iron door. Walk through this gate and down the sidewalk. Turn right, through the next ornate arch and gate. The pottery studio is the first room to the right.
